Hannah Arendt
Fifty years after her death, Hannah Arendt and her questions about freedom, responsibility and judgment are as relevant as ever. In the award-winning film HANNAH ARENDT, director Margarethe von Trotta collaborates with actress Barbara Sukowa – one of several joint projects. Sukowa portrays the influential German-Jewish philosopher and political theorist Hannah Arendt. The film focuses on Arendt’s observation and analysis of the 1961 trial of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem. Condensed into a dynamically told portrait of an exceptional 20th century intellectual, the film is also a compelling and intimate portrait of New York’s German-Jewish émigré community at the beginning of the 1960s.
