Foreign Language
A German-French friendship, told as the story of two young women coming together: In FOREIGN LANGUAGE, Fanny's desire to distance herself from family tensions and Lena's politically charged everyday life collide – two life plans that are initially foreign to each other, yet allow an unexpected closeness. While Fanny tries to break free from expectations and Lena oscillates between activism, doubt, and feeling overwhelmed, the two open up spaces for each other that would otherwise remain closed. When the exchange reverses and Lena travels to Strasbourg, her search for self-determination, trust and belonging deepens. A European coming-of-age film about cross-border love, longing and freedom, sensitively directed and performed.
