The German Lesson
Set in the post-war years, THE GERMAN LESSON follows schoolboy Siggi Jepsen, who is considered difficult to discipline. Assigned to write an essay about “The Joy of Duty” as a punishment, Siggi writes about his own life – torn between two important role models: his father, a village police officer loyal to the Nazi regime, and his godfather, an artist banned from working by the Nazis. THE GERMAN LESSON is an adaptation of Siegfried Lenz’s classic novel of the same name. The German author would have celebrated his 100th birthday on 17 March 2026.
